The 21 Day Fix is the first program I did postpartum. It is one of Beachbody’s most popular programs for anyone looking to start a new fitness routine and is a great “beginner’s program.” That is not to say that it isn’t challenging – it definitely is. However, it is designed to challenge anyone, even if they haven’t worked out regularly in the past.
The premise behind the 21 Day Fix is that it takes 21 days to make or break a habit. So, by following the program in its entirety, you will create healthy habits in your fitness routine as well as in your diet and break up with whatever habits are holding you back from reaching your goals.
If you know me personally, you know that the year before my daughter was born was a very draining year. My husband and I both had some changes at work that required us to work excessive hours, my father in law passed away from a glioblastoma, my husband’s aunt was diagnosed with cancer, we lost my grandmother, and I became pregnant. I fell out of my fitness and health routine and fell into this false sense of believing that because I wasn’t gaining excessive weight while pregnant that I wouldn’t have trouble losing it quickly after. Well, that was so, so false and I actually ended up gaining weight while nursing as well as losing so much of my muscle definition all over my body. That “before” picture is really hard to look at. We live and we learn, though, and our struggle is an important part of our story.
I completed two rounds of the 21 Day Fix and lost 9 pounds. I didn’t do a good job of tracking my inches during that program but I noticed a change all over with how my clothes fit. Those things were great but what was more important was definitely what I gained – energy and confidence to help me be a better wife and mom.
The 21 Day Fix meal plan is super easy to follow and it isn’t overly limiting like many “diets,” Its goal is simply to teach you how to eat healthy and clean as a lifestyle change – not a crash diet. I found that I wasn’t eating nearly as much protein or fruit as I really needed and far too many carbs. Even after a year, I still follow the plan according to the 80/20 rule – I eat clean 80% of the time and allow myself to live and eat as I please the rest of the time.
I completed this program almost a year ago and have moved on to complete so many more of Beachbody’s most popular programs, including 21 Day Fix Extreme, PiYo, Country Heat, and T25. I’m so very thankful for my experience with the 21 Day Fix, though, because it got me back into a healthy lifestyle and has given me back a body I can be proud of.
